National Assembly of Catholic Parents

March 21, 2012 in Announcements, Events by rajivdhir

The first ever National Assembly of Catholic Parents will take place on Saturday 25 August 2012 in the Xavier Centre, Carfin Grotto, Lanarkshire. The Assembly will take place from 2 pm and will end with the celebration of vigil Mass at 5pm. Cardinal O’Brien will give the keynote address and Bishop Devine will preside at the Mass.

Parents are invited to attend this unique event.

The Catholic Education Commission has established a group to support parental involvement in their children’s education, in particular recognising the unique role of parents as the ‘first educators’ in faith. This working group has already conducted an initial survey of Parent Councils of Catholic schools and this identified the need for Parent Council members to have opportunities for contact with other parents and to obtain support and encouragement. Consequently, one of the aims in the new Action Plan of the Catholic Education Commission is to ‘support parents in being the “first educators” of their children’, with the specific task to organise events which will provide opportunities to establish a network of parents across Catholic schools and parishes.
